Adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights

Violation of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights can lead to dazzle of drivers of vehicles moving by a parallel course and to be at the bottom of emergency creation on the road. Check of correctness of adjustment of headlights should be made regularly time in 12 months, and also each time after replacement of block headlights and performance of repair of bearing elements of a front of the car. Final adjustment of optical axes should be made in a specialized workshop of car-care center!


Each of block headlights is equipped with two adjusting screws. One of screws serves for adjustment of provision of a headlight in the horizontal plane, the second – in vertical (address to an illustration above).

There are some methods of check of correctness of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights of the car. Simplest of them, not demanding from the performer of any special skills and not needing use of the special equipment below is described.

Scheme of adjustment of the direction of an optical axis of head headlights

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Drive the car a front to a wall. Paste on a wall an adhesive tape strip on the vertical line passing in the diametrical plane of the car. Also paste vertical strips of an adhesive tape on the lines passing through the centers of projections to a wall of lenses of head headlights (address to an illustration above).
2. Paste on a wall horizontally located strip of an adhesive tape on the line which has been carried out through the centers of projections of lenses of head headlights on a surface of a wall.

This procedure is simpler for making, having adjusted the car closely to a wall.

3. For performance of adjustment of the direction of optical axes of head headlights roll away the car from a wall on distance about 7.6 m.

The platform on which the car takes place, should have an equal horizontal surface, it is desirable with a firm covering. The fuel tank of the car should be filled half, from salon and a luggage compartment all heavy subjects breaking centering of the car are taken.

4. Begin with adjustment of the direction of an optical axis of a passing beam. Try to achieve rotation of adjusting screws of block headlights of such arrangement of light spots that zones with the maximum intensity of lighting it appeared approximately in 50 mm is lower than the horizontal line and on a touch size more to the right of the vertical.
5. Having finished the first adjustment, include a driving beam: zones of the maximum intensity of illumination should be displaced in the direction of crossing of vertical lines with horizontal, having appeared is slightly lower than the last.

To receive equally complete centering of beams both near, and a driving beam in practice it is not obviously possible. It is necessary to try to achieve some compromise solution taking into account features of operation of the car, keeping in head of a corner aspiration to provide the maximum traffic safety.
