Driveshafts and hinges – the general information

The driveshaft represents a pipe by means of which the torque developed by the engine is transferred from a transfer case to differential of the main transfer. Since both ends the shaft is equipped with universal (kardanny) hinges.

In front the driveshaft is equipped with the sliding coupling with a bifurcate collar of the kardanny hinge on the end. The coupling enters into the case of lengthening of a transmission that provides the transmission line demanded freedom of moving in the longitudinal direction, compensating the shifts of transmission which are inevitably occurring during movement of the car. Tightness of landing of the coupling in the case of lengthening is provided with an epiploon which in case of development of leaks is subject to replacement.

Each of driveshafts fastens to a transfer case by means of a connecting flange. After driveshaft removal the corresponding flange can be dismantled from a box with the purpose of check of a condition and performance of replacement of epiploons. Each of flanges is equipped with two epiploons, – one is established between a flange and a case of the box, the second (the smaller size) is planted directly in a flange.

Driveshafts demand the minimum attention. Hinges jam greasing once and in default are replaced assembled. Replacement of hinges is made on the shaft removed from the car.

In view of features of the appointment the driveshaft demands good balancing that means need of periodic cleaning it from sticking mud deposits, try to examine shaft each time when the car for any reason appears it is lifted over the earth.
